Widmanstätten patterns is the name of a phenomenon where long crystals are formed in the structure of metal. These crystals are only formed when the molten metal is cooled over a very long period of time in the vacuum of space. So examples of this are only found in meteorites. The effect is that the metal almost looks woven. I wanted to capture the idea of a sword sent to earth by a god so I created this fantasy design with a blade crafted with that other-earthly material and has design nods to forms indicating a higher realm such as halos and wings while maintaining the functional proportions of a historical montante.
